DONCHERY

"La Maison du Tisserand" (The house of the weaver)

On 2 September1870, in order to evade the head-to-head conciliation project hoped for by Napoleon III with the King of Prussia, Bismarck, he went in the morning, to meet the Emperor at a house that belonged a weaver, not far from Donchery bridge.

It was abandoned by its inhabitants, so they went in and took chairs to sit outside. The conversation was futile and tedious and at eight o'clock in the morning, joined by Moltke, they went to Bellevue Castle.
